The Impreza RS is a blast to drive. The engine growls and rev's freely. The view is
expansive over the low nose. The not-yet-functional hood scoop pokes up giving you a
feeling of performance. Seat position is good and the placement of wheel, gauges and
shifter is excellent. Turn in is quick. Braking has a soft feel but has immediate results.
I have addressed the feel with stainless steel brake lines and an older model single-stage
brake booster. See the mods page for more details.
Overall a really nice rally package. We have use the Impreza on pavement, gravel and snow. Provided the right tires are in place, traction is fantastic. The '98 Impreza is without the LSD rear end but doesn't seem to suffer traction or driveability as a result. Would be a nice upgrade. While performance isn't blazing by sports car standards, the 2.5L motor has a great deal of pull, especially at the low end. This is really where it's needed for TSD. Our scores have been extremely good from day one in this car. Nora took this car to the Bremerton Raceway for a driving school in the pouring rain. By the afternoon session, she was lapping with the fastest crowd of BMW's, Mustang SVT's and Eagle Talons. It was amazing to see this little car making the same lap times as the 300 hp monsters. It is so easy to drive and has tremendous grip in the rain (despite the stock Bridestone tires). Stock Performance
